Arapahoe County, CO I've been looking for Wood Ducks off and on for the last two years. It can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Then I received a tip from a friend about where they had been seen recently. I showed up just before sunrise and just after sunrise they appeared out of the grass along the shore. Two mating pairs. This pair climbed up on a log to warm and preen in the warmth of the rising sun. Thankful for the opportunity to finally see these amazing ducks! Fun Facts: The Wood Duck is the only North American duck that regularly produces two broods in one year. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches.
